Tommy Bittle

Tommy (Tom) Bittle, age 82, of Eldon, Missouri passed away on July 17, 2025 at his home. He was born on October 22, 1942 in Wilton, Missouri; a son of Alfred Ewing  and Trellis Allene (Nichols) Bittle. He was united in marriage to Mary Griffin in 1976 in Columbia, Missouri and shared a blessed 49 years together.

Tommy was a graduate of New Franklin High School and joined the Army in 1966, where he spent a year fighting in the Vietnam War.  After returning, he worked for more than 25 years for Montgomery Ward as a delivery driver in Columbia, and later spent 14 years as a city bus driver in Columbia.  After retirement, he and Mary relocated to Eldon.  

Tommy loved to go fishing and camping in his free time.  He and Mary also enjoyed many trips in their RV traveling all over the country, including seeing the Grand Canyon and California.  They also made several trips to Las Vegas, where he always seemed to be successful.  He also had a knack for winning scratcher tickets.  

Tommy is survived by wife, Mary Helen Bittle of Eldon; a son Donald Bittle of Fayette; a brother Jerry Bittle of Mexico; a sister Ruth Parkes of California; niece ShyAnn Robinette and her father Phil Ponder, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; brothers Delmar, Jim, Larry, Curt; and a sister Beverly Jean Ponder.

Friends will be received from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, July 21, 2025 at Hedges-Scott-Millard Funeral Homes-Eldon. Military Honors will be held at 5:30 pm.

Expressions of sympathy can be made in Tommy’s name to Honor Flight Network. Tommy proudly attended an Honor Flight with his brothers who were also Vietnam Veterans.
