Thomas H Withers, lovingly known as Tom or Tommy to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2025, in Springfield, MO. Born on December 21, 1961, in Norfolk, VA, Tommy grew a life rich in love, laughter, and dedication to the values he held dear.
Tommy proudly served his country as a member of the US Army from 1980 to 1983, an experience that shaped much of his character and instilled in him a sense of discipline and commitment. Following his military service, Tommy embarked on a long and distinguished career with Prime, Inc., where for 24 years he was not just a trusted employee but a part of the family. His dedication to safety on the road was commendable, achieving over 3 million accident-free miles and earning multiple safety awards throughout his tenure.
Tommy lived his life according to Christian principles, showing love and kindness to all he encountered. His gentle demeanor and friendly smile were a beacon of light in the lives of many, and he will be remembered for his compassionate spirit.
Tommy’s love for life was evident in his pastimes. An avid fan of the Georgia Bulldogs Football Team, he could often be found cheering on his favorite team during the fall season. His love for the outdoors was unmistakable, with many fond memories created at the lake or river where he loved to fish. (In jest, would tease that it’s called fishin’, not catchin’) And, not one to shy away from a challenge, Tommy enjoyed the thrill of a good poker game, a testament to his sharp mind and competitive nature.
He leaves behind a loving family who will treasure his memory: his devoted spouse, Jo Ann Carder; his brother, Barry Withers (Susan); his sisters, Darlene Ker (Jim) and Beth Cunningham (Joel); his nephew, Chris Ray; his niece, Charity LeRoy; and his stepchildren, Chris Baker and Amanda Moore. He was predeceased by his parents, Tom and Mary Withers, whose values and love shaped the man he became.
Thomas H Withers lived a life marked by love, kindness, and friendliness. His legacy is one of unwavering dedication to his family, his work, and his community. The memories he created with those he loved will continue to bring comfort and smiles to those who were privileged to know him. Tommy’s journey through life was one of purpose, joy, and an indomitable spirit that will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
