Thelma Gardner

Thelma Jean (Hill) Gardner went to her heavenly home on Friday, October 17, 2025. At the age of 95. She was born on August 16th, 1930 to John Arlee (JE) & Eula Clark Hill in Hackleburg (Marion County), AL. She was the 4th of 9 children. She was the last Living child of Arlee & Eula Hill.

She was retired from Sears & Roebuck. She worked for Sears for a total of 40 years. She worked at downtown store until that store was closed & moved to Fairfield and then she worked there until she retired in 1995. She was a devoted and active member of Church H20 (formerly Forestdale Free Will Baptist Church) since 1965, up until the last few years of her life due to health problems.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Lecil Gardner. Her parents; her siblings, Velmar Kennemur, Wesley Hill, Luther Hill, Lilly Vee Humphreys, Thomas Hill, Charles Hill, Robert Hill, and James Hill.

She is survived by her daughter Debbie Gail Scogin and son in love, Johnny F. Scogin. One precious granddaughter, Sarah Nichole Lawley. A host of nieces, nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank a very close family friend (adopted family member) Carol Lay for all of the help she has given them and for always being there when they needed her.

The family would also like to thank Affinity Hospice for their loving care of Momma. Especially Rolanda, Ashley, Mildred, Katherine, Brittany, Tom, Chaplin, Jeff, Amber, and Dr. Hurst who have taken care of Momma and made this journey easier for Thelma and the family.

There will be a visitation time from 10AM until the service time at 11AM on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at Crestview Memorial Funeral Home. The service will be held at Crestview Memorial Funeral Home. Rev. Roger Humphreys officiating. Burial will be at Crestview Memorial Gardens.
