Tanner Martin
- June 25, 2025

Tanner Martin, a sweet husband and tender father, a loving son, cherished brother and friend, and a passionate advocate, began his new mission in Heaven on June 25, 2025, at the age of 30 yrs old, winning his fight with colon cancer. He was and continues to be surrounded by family.
Born on December 22, 1994, at the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City, Tanner brought joy and light to all who knew him. He was the beloved son of Kimberlee Watts and Thomas Martin, and he grew up alongside his brother Spencer Martin. Tanner’s vibrant spirit and genuine kindness endeared him to everyone he encountered.
Tanner was united in love with his sweetheart Shay (Wright) Martin, who stood as his steadfast companion through life’s joys and challenges. Their bond was one of unwavering support, laughter, and shared dreams. Together, they welcomed into their lives their fur baby, “Luke” Lucas George, a miniature schnoodle, who brought endless joy and companionship to their home through his cancer years.
Against all odds, on May 15, 2025, Tanner was present when Shay gave birth to their daughter AmyLou, their little Jiaoza (dumpling in Chinese). He was the first to welcome her to this world saying, “I’ve waited for this for so long.” He loved on her and continues to love on her every chance he gets from Heaven. AmyLou smiles up at him.
Tanner’s thirst for knowledge and dedication to helping others led him to pursue higher education. He graduated from Alta High School in 2013 and went on to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Here, he met lifelong friends and his sweetheart.
Tanner earned a Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Science, with a minor in Indigenous Studies, from Utah Valley University in 2024. He was passionate about his studies, especially in the field of marriage and family therapy, where he aspired to make a difference in people’s lives. Outside of his academic pursuits, Tanner found joy in reading, delving into WW2 history and weapons, gaming, and socializing with friends and family. His outgoing nature and genuine interest in others made him a beloved friend and confidant to many.
In addition to his academic and personal interests, Tanner was deeply committed to making a positive impact in his community. He was a proud member of Man Up to Cancer, where he connected with and loved his fellow cancer fighters. Tanner’s compassion, warmth, and unwavering dedication to those he loved will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
An Evening Viewing will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2025 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Spring Hollow 1st Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 688 W. 500 N., American Fork, Utah. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 5th at 1:00 pm at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Man Up to Cancer in his honor at https://manuptocancer.org/
or to his Legacy fund for AmyLou (Jiaozi) at http://gofund.me/9fc565a2.
