Susan Ricketts Lock, 92, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, November 15, 2025. Susan was born on March 27, 1933 to Frances Daly Ricketts and grew up surrounded by a large and loving family. She was preceded in death by her mother Frances, her loving husband Robert K. Lock, her daughter, Maria Lock Wanamaker, and her grandson, Alexander. Susan is survived by Anne (James) Dolan, Andrea (Jack) Smeeton, Bobby (Coleen) Lock, Susan (Joe) Campbell, and Peter (Susan) Lock. She was a loving grandmother of James, Emily, Andrew, Nick and Sean Dolan, Joseph and John Smeeton, Lauren and Sean Campbell, Gabriella, Robert and Rachele Lock, Susan Wanamaker, and great-grandmother to Ellie, J.R., Olivia, Luke, Molly, Morgan, Madeline, Cameron, Alexander, Emmalyn, Blake, Buck, and Rosie. Susan worked with the State’s Attorney’s Office and the Mayor’s Office of Special Events. Throughout those years she found a cherished group of friends who continued to be a very special part of her life.
The travel adventures began with the love of her life, Bob, and continued throughout her life with her children as a family and special trips with her grandchildren as they graduated from high school. Susan’s adventures included five continents and was one of the most treasured of her many life experiences.
Throughout her life, Susan was the embodiment of grace and elegance. If she were here, she would want all of us to share her favorite Irish prayer:
“Take time to work, it is the price of success. Take time to think, it is the source of power.
Take time to play, it is the secret of perpetual youth. Take time to be friendly, it is the
road to happiness. Take time to love and be loved, it is the privilege of the gods. Take
time to share, life is too short to be selfish. Take time to laugh, laughter is the music of
the soul.”
A memorial mass will be held on Friday November 28, 2025 at Queen of Angels Church 2330 W Sunnyside Ave, Chicago, IL 60625. Visitation will begin, at the church, at 10:00 AM followed by a memorial mass starting promptly at noon.
Susan requested that in lieu of flowers please make donations to Common Pantry. For information www.smithcorcoran.com or 773.736.3833.
