Steven Akes

Steven William Akes, age 73, of Indianola, Iowa, the son of Gerald Lester and Marjorie Jean (Stark) Akes, was born on June 8, 1951, in Osceola, Iowa. He passed from this life on May 29, 2025, at Karen Acres in Urbandale, Iowa.

Steve grew up in Davis City, Iowa attending and graduating in 1969, from Central Decatur School in Leon, Iowa. He graduated from the College of Engineering at Iowa State University in 1973. During his career he was city engineer for the City of Des Moines, Iowa before becoming county engineer for Ringgold County, Guthrie County, Decatur County, Warren County, and finally Union County. For a short time he was an engineer of a concrete company.

In 1975, he and Terri Lynn Forman were united in marriage. His son, Brandon, was later joined by their children, Todd and Kristin. They would have been married 50 years this August.

In his free time, Steve enjoyed fishing, hunting, and both driving and watching car races. He attended many Nascar races. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Stuart Akes; mother-in-law, Cheryl Norman; brothers-in-law, Kyle Foreman and Aaron Chamley. Those who will miss him most are his wife, Terri Akes of Indianola, Iowa; children, Brandon Akes of Des Moines, Iowa, Todd and Kelli Akes of Spearfish, South Dakota, and Kristin and Chad Dale of West Des Moines, Iowa; grandchildren, Addison Dale and Hugh Akes; brother, Stan Akes and wife, Sandie of Waukee, Iowa; sister-in-law, Becky Akes of Springfield, Missouri; father-in-law, Don Forman of Leon, Iowa; Terri’s siblings, Corby and Ronnie Boswell, Kelly Greenland, Lance Forman, all of Leon, and Kim Chamley of Stephenville, Texas; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held at the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 5, 2025, with Pastor Terry D. Roberts officiating. Burial will be in the Leon Cemetery, Leon, Iowa.

A memorial fund has been established by the Family.
