Stephen Freeman

Dear friends and family,

It is with profound sadness and immense love that we share the news of the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend – Steve Freeman. He left us on July 12, 2025, at the age of 76.

Born on May 2nd, 1949, at Del Ray Hospital near River Rouge, Steve lived in various Michigan communities, including River Rouge, Taylor, Allen Park, Livonia, and ultimately built his home in Milford

Steve proudly served four years in the United States Marine Corps, including a deployment to Vietnam. After his military service, he began his career as an auto mechanic at a Buick dealership. Following in his father’s footsteps, he later became a union carpenter. His exceptional integrity and skill led him to manage significant projects in the Detroit area, such as Joe Louis Arena, Oakwood Hospital, and the Ford Motor Company scientific research laboratory, from where he retired at 56.

The USMC motto, “Semper Fidelis,” meaning “always faithful,” truly embodied Steve’s character. He was unwavering in his devotion to God, his family, his country, and his friends. He generously helped everyone in our family with home renovations, building houses, garages, finishing basements, and handling any electrical or plumbing needs.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Junior and Mary L. Freeman, and his brother and sister and law, Daniel and

Jolene Freeman.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Therese Freeman; his children, Jeff Freeman (Eva), Heather Quillin (Wade), Deanna Young (Richard), Judith Chandler (Steve), Lisa Giles, AnneMarie Seymour (David); his cherished grandchildren, Hannah, Vincent, Sophia, Estella, Carly (CJ), Elliot, Charlie, Henry, Owen, Colton, Julia, Alex, Logan, Ella, Ivy, Hazel, Frederick, and Walter; and his sisters, Linda Boulton (Larry) and Susan Hanstad (Marlin). He also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 1st, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors – Brighton (600 E Main St, Brighton, MI 48116).

Interment of ashes will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the memorial contributions can be donated to Tunnel to Towers Foundation in Stephen’s memory.
