Sarah Correa

It is with deep sorrow and love that we announce the passing of our beloved Sarah Correa, age 77, of The Bronx, New York who was called upon by her Lord and Savior on Thursday May 22nd, 2025. She passed away peacefully in her sleep during a brief hospital admission. Born January 23rd,1948 in Guayanilla, Puerto Rico, her family would later move to Maunabo, Puerto Rico. Sarah was on one of 13 children of Cristobal Correa and Juaquina Ortiz Correa. At the age of nine years old her family would move to New York City where she would reside for the rest of her life. After brief stays in Brooklyn and Manhattan, she would ultimately make The Bronx her hometown where she resided for nearly 60 years. Sarah was a cherished Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Aunt who touched countless lives with her kindness and unwavering love towards her family.

On March 12, 1969, Sarah married Elias Rivera in The Bronx, New York and would go on to have two sons from their marriage, Elias Rivera Jr., and Robert Rivera, also known as Bobby. After their divorce in 1976, Sarah would go on to have two additional children, Cindy Rivera in 1977 and Steven Correa in 1984.

Times were difficult for a single mother in the 70s and beyond, but she always found a way to make sure her children had what they needed to live happy and healthy lives, despite limited resources. Her commitment to her children, and to her grandchildren later in life, never wavered. Once a grandmother, she accepted the task of being the childcare provider to her grandchildren who resided near her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, generosity, laughs and good times. Though she may no longer walk among us, her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those she loved and who loved her in return.

She is survived by her children, Elias Rivera Jr. of Perth Amboy, New Jersey; Robert Rivera of The Bronx, New York, Cindy Rivera of Bardonia, New York; and Steven Correa of The Bronx, New York, along with her closest sister and life-long best friend, Milca Correa of The Bronx, New York, 6 surviving siblings and her seven grandchildren. Funeral service will take place Thursday, May 29th at Sisto Funeral Home located at 3489 East Tremont Avenue, Bronx New York from 3pm to 8pm.
