He was born on August 16, 1953, to Kenneth and Ada Bishop in Lufkin, Texas. He attended elementary and junior high school in Conroe, Texas, and graduated from Beatrice High School in Beatrice, Nebraska, with the class of 1971. He graduated from Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma, in May of 1976, with a Bachelor of Arts in Religion.

Rob was united in marriage to Marilyn Higgins of Tulsa, Oklahoma on May 22, 1976 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They made their first home in Lincoln, Nebraska, where he briefly attended the University of Nebraska Law School before moving to Colorado Springs, Colorado, to begin his career in property management.

Soon to follow, was the birth of their first child, Jennifer Leigh Bishop, in Greeley, Colorado in 1977. His career took them to Tulsa, Oklahoma where their second child, Robert Ryan Bishop, was born in 1979. Rob and Marilyn were blessed with living in Kansas, Texas, and Colorado, before planting their family in Fairfax Station, Virginia. While in Texas, Rob served as a minister at Castle Hills Baptist Church in San Antonio, and studied at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. Rob and Marilyn celebrated the birth of their third child, Justin Riley Bishop, in 1993, in Fairfax, Virginia. Rob worked hard to achieve the titles of Regional Property Manager, VP of Operations, and VP of Assets in his profession.

Rob had many interests. He enjoyed researching his family’s lineage and eventually had about 144,000 individuals in his family tree database. Rob also loved singing in the choir at Immanuel Bible Church in Springfield, Virginia. Rob truly appreciated God’s beautiful creation – whether the beach or the mountains! Over the years, he dedicated his time and talents with various troops in the Boys Scouts of America, including serving as Scoutmaster of Troop 787 in Carrollton, TX. He went on countless camping trips, including three amazing trips to Philmont Scout Ranch. He worked alongside and encouraged his two sons as they both achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, an achievement of which he was extremely proud.

Rob loved his family dearly and cherished his time with his eight grandkids. Lovingly known as “Bobby B” or “Pot-Pot,” when he retired in 2022, he and Marilyn relocated to Maryland to be near four of their grandkids. They worked as Election Judges in 2024. They also enjoyed serving as volunteers at the Weinberg Theatre in Frederick, Maryland. After much prayer, Rob and Marilyn moved to Waco, Texas in September 2025 to be closer to their other four grandkids in Texas and Colorado.
