MANSFIELD: Richard L. “Dick” Smith, age 88, passed away peacefully June 23, 2025 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Born September 19, 1936, in Navarre, Ohio, Dick was a 1954 graduate of Hoover High School. As a young man, he walked to school with a neighbor girl named Connie Gummere—an innocent routine that blossomed into a lifelong love. Dick and Connie were married at Calvary Presbyterian Church in Canton, on March 8, 1957, and celebrated 68 years of marriage, filled with mutual devotion, quiet strength, and shared memories.

Dick was a man whose life reflected steady hands, a quiet spirit, and a deep connection to both people and the outdoors. He was the proud owner of Springfield Mold & Die, a business he built and operated for over 40 years. His work was more than a livelihood—it was his passion.

Outside of the shop, Dick found joy in the woods and on the water. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and especially trips to Canada. He often shared the beauty of nature with others through printed photos from his trail camera, capturing deer, squirrels, and other wildlife that wandered through his favorite places.

He was a member of Main Street Global Methodist Church. Even-tempered and soft-spoken, Dick rarely raised his voice or lost his composure. His calm presence was a comfort to those around him. He was a loyal fan of Cleveland’s sports teams—cheering on the Indians, Browns, and Cavaliers through every season with hopeful perseverance.

He will be remembered for his unwavering work ethic, his love of nature, and the quiet grace with which he lived his life.

He is survived by his devoted wife Connie Smith; children Michael Smith (Missie Stewart), Vicki Smith (Dave Meier) and Becki (Rodney) Watson; grandchildren Matthew and Andy Fahmy and Sean and Ryan Watson; siblings Ted (Ann) Stark, Dave (Nancy) Stark, Lynn (Diane) Smith, and Marla (Mark) Spreadbury; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family.

Friends may call Sunday, June 29, 2025 from 1-3 pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where Dick’s funeral will begin at 3 pm. Rev. David Sipes will officiate. Private graveside services will be held in Mansfield Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to Global United Methodist Church, Mansfield, Ohio.
