Rev. Billie Jo Ray, age 75, of West Frankfort, Illinois, passed away peacefully in her sleep while on vacation, embracing the serenity and joy she so often brought to others.
Born March 9, 1950, in Christopher, IL, Billie was a beacon of faith, kindness, and unwavering love. She married the love of her life, Norman “Rounder” Ray, at Heights Church of God in West Frankfort, where together they built a life centered on devotion to family and service to the Lord.
A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Billie is survived by her beloved husband, Norman Ray; her two children, Lori A. Ray and Norman Ray Jr. (wife Lori J. Ray); and four cherished grandchildren, Alexis Ray, Rylan Ray, Amberlyn Elliott, and Kaden Rotramel (wife Emily Rotramel).
Billie was preceded in death by her mother Hettie Smothers, father Orville Anderson, and stepfather Alver Opal Smith; four sisters Jerry Russell, Sue Williams, Norma Stipes, and Linda Norman; and one brother, Greg Smith. She is survived by her loving sister, Barbara Ottolini.
Throughout her life, Billie’s heart for ministry and mentorship touched many. She led the youth at Heights Church of God for 18 years. She also served faithfully as the minister of Bluford Church of God from 1995 to 2003. Her compassionate spirit and unwavering faith inspired everyone who knew her.
Billie was known for her radiant smile, generous heart, and willingness to help anyone in need. Her life was a living testimony of selflessness, grace, and love—a legacy that will continue to live on through her family, her church, and all the lives she touched.
Services to honor Billie’s life will be held on Friday, August 8, 2025 at 1:00 P.M. at the Parker-Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort with Pastor Danielle Emling officiating. Visitation will be after 11:00 A.M. on Friday at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery near Johnston City.
