Raymond G. Schmid, 95, died peacefully at home on June 23rd, 2025.

Beloved husband of the late Marie T. Schmid (nee Schloss). Loving father of Maria (late Jack) Garrity, Carlin (Owen) Glennon, Terese (Terry) Engling, Mark (Laura) Schmid, Max (Mary) Schmid, and Matthew (Katie) Schmid. Beloved grandfather of Carlin Glennon, Owen (Liz) Glennon and Mary Glennon; Katie (Brad) Niemerg, Max (Kelcey) Engling, Daniel (Nannette) Engling, Hannah (Andrew) Gibson, Maria (Trevor) Hogg, Ruth (Tanner) Murray, Maggie (Ben) Bush, and Emily (Grahame) Love; Zachary (Kailey) Schmid, and Lauren Schmid; Matthew Schmid, Aaron (Stacey) Schmid, Luke (Brittnay) Schmid, and Julia (Travis) Kime; Michael Schmid, Raymond (Sarah) Schmid, Tommy (Hope) Schmid, David Schmid and Gretchen Schmid. Proud great grandfather of 22 great grandchildren.

He was the youngest of 7 children; predeceased by Carl (Isabelle), Antoinette (John) Dubsky, Frieda (Robert) Fries, Max (Lydia), Teresa (Walter) Krutz, and Josephine (Gerald) Walsdorf. Very fond uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Ray proudly served in Korean War with the 126th Bomb Wing of the IL Air Nat’l Guard and was a founding member and Adjutant of the Veterans From Bordeaux, comprised of members of the 126th wing who served with him in Europe. Employed as a printer/supervisor by R. R. Donnelley and Sons Co. for 43 years, retiring on Oct. 1st, 1990. 75 year member of The Schwaben Verein, 70 year member of the Schwäbischer Unterstützung Verein, and past treasurer of the Schwaben Society Charity Fund. Traveled extensively in Europe and to the Holy Land with his wife, Marie, and a group of her friends on many Elder hostel outings in the USA and in Europe, and with his veteran buddies. A member of St. Margaret Mary Parish since 1959, he served on its finance committee, school board, Cub Scouts, and varied ministries in the church.

Visitation on Sunday, June 29th from 3 to 8 pm at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 6150 N. Cicero Ave., Chicago. Funeral Mass on Monday, June 30th, at 10:00 am, at St. Margaret Mary Church (Holy Child Jesus Parish), 2324 W. Chase Ave., Chicago. Interment Calvary Cemetery, Evanston.
