Ralph Powell

Ralph Alexander Powell, age 93 of Palatine IL died peacefully on November 4, 2025 at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington IL.    

Ralph was born on August 18, 1932 in Chicago, IL to the parents of Alexander and Helen Powell.  Ralph graduated from Libertyville High School and joined the US Military Air Force where he served from 1952 – 1956, when he received an honorable discharge.  After that he completed his college degree from DePaul University in Chicago where he met his future wife, Diane.  

Ralph and Diane married on October 8, 1960 in Chicago.  They had three children Gregg (Kathy), Laura (Jim) and Donna (Mick).  They also had eight grandchildren who were the apple of his eye:  Zach, Bradley, Matt, Nicole, Amanda, Rachel, Grace and Sydney.  

Ralph worked for Kemper Insurance for many years and then became a successful investment advisor before retiring at age 82.

Ralph and Diane were members of Holy Family Catholic Church in Inverness and enjoyed traveling to Hawaii during the winter months and spending time & making wonderful memories with their children and grandchildren.  Ralph was passionate about golf with Diane. He played whenever he could with friends and family and was sure to impart his best golf technique to his grandchildren. He played golf a few times this summer (at 93 years old) he parred the last hole he played.  He was also an avid Cubs fan.   

Ralph is preceded in death by his mother and father, as well as his sister Virginia, brothers Clarence and George, and nephew Bob.  He is survived by his wife Diane and children and grandchildren.  

A Visitation will be held November 15th, 2025, from 9 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. at Holy Family Church in Inverness, IL.  Mass of Christian Burial to start at 10:30 a.m.  Interment St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine, IL.

In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
