Pay it Forward Project awards Carson City, Douglas County 2025 scholarships

By John McDougall — Each year the Pay It Forward Project grants scholarships to students that make a positive difference in our community and in our schools. This year 8 scholarships were awarded to deserving students in the Carson City, Douglas County areas.

The Pay it Forward Project, a fund of the El Dorado Community Foundation, encourages volunteerism in our schools and in our communities. We have scholarships available in schools in the Carson City, Carson Valley areas as well as in South Lake Tahoe for students with a background in volunteerism and building a better community.

We wanted to congratulate the following students this year’s recipients. Carson High School, Ava Schofield, Betsey Campbell-Richards. Douglas High School, Camden Jahreis, Sierra Pulver. Whittell High School, Sophia Skye Kirkman. This year’s scholarship recipients at Western Nevada College were Mariah Young, Patrica Griffen and Matthew Mendoza for continuing education. We would like to congratulate all these students and encourage them to continue to make a positive difference through volunteerism as well as continuing to work hard in achieving their educational goals.

The Pay it Forward Project encourages volunteerism and has new community volunteer Facebook pages for people to connect with nonprofit organizations in need of assistance, those organizations can also post their specific volunteer needs on that page as well. We all can make a positive difference by just volunteering for a couple of hours each month and thus meeting interesting likeminded people and building a better community.
