Norma Flanik

Norma H. Flanik, Born July 22, 1936 Passed away on April 12, 2025 at the age of 88. Norma was born on her family farm in Walsh, Ontario Canada to Nora Parthenia (Card) Partridge and Clarence M. Partridge. She grew up working on the family farm with a desire to see the world. In 1954, Norma graduated high school and enrolled at St. Joseph School of Nursing in Hamilton, Ontario Canada, where she graduated with a nursing degree in 1958. Upon graduation, her father gave her a choice: a gift of a sporty MG Midget or a one way plane ticket to San Francisco. She chose the latter. In 1959, she headed out west to San Francisco and worked at UCSF Medical Center in San Francisco and lived with fellow nurses from Canada. She was diligently saving money to finish her trip to New Zealand as the ultimate goal. One evening, the girls had a “Night on the Town” when she met the future Love of her Life, Charles Edward Flanik. This changed Norma’s plans in a new direction she had not anticipated. Because of Love, two people started their new life together. Getting married by Father Sheehan in San Francisco Catholic Church on Geary.
They both worked at their careers until in 1962 a baby boy was born, their son Mark Thomas. Charles diligently worked his career, sacrificing time away from home while Norma kept busy as a homemaker. She took gourmet cooking classes as a pastime, taking care of her husband, son and household. Both Norma and Charles decided to move to Novato, Ca in 1966 to raise their family. She volunteered at Novato General Hospital helping families of patients for support. She joined Sunny Hills Guild and was involved with the Guild for over 30 years. After that Norma volunteered at California Dept of health and county health dept assisting with Well baby clinics, elderly, vaccinations, until Charles became ill. She went on birding and nature hikes with Mrs. Tewilliger.
Charles Edward Flanik, Born on June 26th, 1930 in Butte, Montana to Joseph Flanik and Frances Gergurich-Brozovich Flanik died on Good Friday April 10, 2020 at the age of 89, Charles was the youngest of a blended family having 3 half brothers, one 1/2 sister, and one full brother. John Brozovich, William, Anne (Peter) Metully, Joseph Brazovich, Frank (Rita) Flanik all deceased.
Charles growing up in the Depression era, under the smelters and slag heaps of the infamous town of Butte America, was afforded a rich childhood with his pals, the gang called the East Butte Owls making life long friends. Ted Leskovar, Don Orlich.. Life was difficult living under the smelter stacks 100 feet from their home. Charles (Chuck) was very determined and very pragmatic about his future. He graduated from Butte High School and enlisted in the United States Army Reserve 1st guided missile Regiment. Stationed firstly at Ft. Bliss Texas, 1/14/49 Fort Ord 1/31/49, then White Sands New Mexico. His enlistment was granted for 6 years with an early discharge on January 13, 1950 right before the Korean war. Her worked his way through the University of Montana in Missoula graduated with a degree in Accounting in 1958. He was recruited by the San Francisco Division of IRS-CID and worked his way up the chain to an esteemed position while not having to move-which was Amazing! He had the honor to guard President’s Kennedy, Nixon and Ford while they visited the west coast. Upon retirement after 25 years with the IRS-CID Charles joined Legal Services Corporation founded by President Ronald Reagan as an AnalystAuditor traveling all around the country and even Guam for nine years until 1992. He then volunteered for Novato AARP Income Tax filing-free tax for Seniors and Low income residents for twenty years. He was a faithful and devout catholic all his life and he and his wife, Norma became founding members of St. Anthony’s of Padua. For 20 years Charles served as the maintenance supervisor of the church. He was a voracious reader of classics, history, military and mysteries. A kind loving gentle man with a dry sense of humor chuckling as he told a joke. For 61 years Charles and Norma had a wonderful loving marriage, may they rest in peace.
Officiating Charles and Norma” passing will be Father Felix from St. Anthony of Padua, family to have a private sacrament at the church prior to going to the funeral at the cemetery. We would like to thank our loving friends and neighbors, Father Felix- Kaiser Hospital for taking such good care of our parents., Charles and Norma are survived by their son, Mark (Elva) Flanik and Grandson, Avery, brother-in-law Samuel Parsons and numerous nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews, Norma and Charles will be laid to rest at Valley Memorial Park 650 Bugeia Lane Novato, Ca. 94945, The family invites to have a celebration of life on Wednesday April 30th, 2025 at 11 A.M. at the graveside.
