Nevada Treasury offers $529 gift certificates for newborns born May 29 in celebration of National 529 Day
- June 5, 2025

The Nevada Treasury celebrated all babies born on Thursday, May 29, 2025, in the Silver State with gift baskets, including a $529 gift certificate for a Future Path 529 Plan to help set their college savings journey in motion.
The Treasury gave up to 100 gift baskets to families in northern and southern Nevada with babies born on May 29, 2025, otherwise known as “National 529 Day.”
“The best time to start saving for a child’s college education is now,” said Dr. Tya Mathis-Coleman, Deputy Treasurer, College Savings, Nevada Treasury. “The earlier families begin saving, the more their investments can grow over time, potentially turning small, consistent contributions into significant savings. Whether your child is a newborn or a high schooler, it’s never too early or too late to make a positive impact on their future.”
The Nevada Treasury offers a variety of flexible 529 college savings options, including both savings and the Nevada Prepaid Tuition Program.
These accounts allow savings to grow on a tax-deferred basis, with tax-free withdrawals when used for qualified education expenses such as tuition, fees, books, student loan payments, and even K-12 education costs.
Funds can be used at eligible schools nationwide, including community colleges, trade and vocational schools, providing families with versatile options beyond traditional four-year universities.
