Nevada Treasury announces 5th annual ‘What Do You Want to Be When You Grow Up’ art contest
- August 11, 2025

The Nevada Treasury is excited to kick off its fifth annual “What Do You Want to Be When You Grow Up” art contest, open from August 11 to Oct. 3, 2025. The contest offers all Nevada students from pre-K to 12th grade the opportunity to showcase their artistic talents by creating original artwork depicting what they want to be when they grow up. A special reception will be held at the Windmill Library in Las Vegas in December, where award recipients will receive money towards their 529 college savings accounts.
“Our fifth annual art contest provides an exciting opportunity for students and families across Nevada,” said Dr. Tya Mathis-Coleman, Deputy Treasurer, College Savings, The Nevada Treasury. “This contest is more than just a chance for students to showcase their incredible artistic talent; it’s a powerful way to spark early conversations about their futures and the importance of higher education. By encouraging them to visualize their dreams, we’re also helping them take the first tangible steps toward making those dreams a reality through college savings.”
First, second, and third place winners will be selected from each grade level. First place winners will be awarded $1,000, second place winners will be awarded $500, and third place winners will be awarded $250. All prize money will be awarded in the form of a 529 college savings account. The Treasury will also present a $200 gift card to the teacher with the most eligible submissions, recognizing their encouragement of students’ artistic and academic aspirations.
