Matthew Allen Brown, 40, of Bailey Lakes passed away unexpectedly on May 15th 2025.

He was born on February 14th 1985 in Ashland Ohio, to Richard & Alberta “Betty” Brown.

Matt graduated from Crestview High School class of 2003. In 2005, He joined the Army; Fort Jackson, SC as 2nd PLT Wardogs. He was later stationed at Fort Hood, TX and his active service later extended to Yongsan, Korea and Iraq. Matt’s primary specialty was in the 25th unit signal support system specialist and worked under the 602D Aviation Support.

During his time in the Army, Matthew was awarded the following achievements; National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, as well as a medal for advanced Rifle Marksmanship on the M203 Grenade Launcher.

Matthew was most remembered for his talent of music. He enjoyed writing and playing music with his brothers. Matt could play pretty much any instrument you put in front of him and was proficient in playing the drums and guitar. He enjoyed the outdoors, hiking, mushroom hunting, and hunting with his father, brothers and uncle Dan Howell.

Matt comes from a large family who loved and miss him terribly. He was a kind soul gone far too soon.

He is survived by his parents, Alberta “Betty” and Richard Brown; his sister, Nicole Hopkins of Chillicothe, Ohio; Three brothers, Robert Brown of Ashland, Christopher (Meganne) Brown of Ashland, Richard Tyler (Amanda) Brown of Nova; his grandparents, Tim & Mary Carman of Loudonville and Ken Howell of Polk; Several Aunts and Uncles along with many nieces and nephews- Coleton, Sierra, Gavin, Robert Jr., Hunter, Jaxson, Maxson, Harper, Aviana, Bentley and Kaden.

Matthew is preceded in death by his grandparents, Lewis Sr. & Betty Brown, Kathy Nell; Robert Wooten Sr.; and Niece Alivia Grace Brown.

Matt will be deeply missed but his music touched so many people. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the Crestview Music Boosters, specifically the Richland County division.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
