MARY BROSNAN

MARY ELLEN BROSNAN, a longtime resident of Yonkers New York, passed away on Saturday, August 16, 2025. She was 82 years old

Mary was the beloved mother of Anne Marie (Roberto) Nascimento and James Hugh Brady (Barbra), dear sister of Eamon Brosnan (Irene) and loving grandmother of James, Jason, Jenna, Ryan, Joseph, Luke and Sophia. She was predeceased by her daughter, Deirdre and her siblings, Winifred, John, Michael, Patrick, and Joseph.

Mary was born in County Kerry Ireland and immigrated to the United States in the 1950s with her parents, Michael and Helen and six siblings. She excelled as a young Irish immigrant continuing her schooling in the Bronx and adapting to NY living easily. She proudly worked for the NY Telephone Company for many years and later worked as a travel agent. Her true joy came from her three children, family and many nieces and nephews. She enjoyed Irish music, poetry and a good laugh. She was always a great person to have a chat with and she was an attentive listener. She cherished her grandchildren- they were truly the light of her life. She enjoyed caring for them when they were young, reading to them and completing countless puzzles. As they became young adults there were many long talks about life with them. She was infamous for the call to them at college to just inquire about their well -being…the true testament to their relationships was that they would always pick up.

She will be missed by all and is certainly rejoicing at her reunion with her beloved daughter Deirdre, her siblings and her beloved nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Mary will be in Duchynski–Cherko Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, from 4 PM to 8 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Church of Saint Pius X on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at 10 AM. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
