Mary Ann Thomas

Mary Ann “Marilyn” Thomas (nee Tangeman) passed away peacefully on August 4, 2025, at Hallmark Nursing Center in Denver, Colorado. She was born on December 12, 1934, in Omaha, Nebraska.

Mary, known as Marilyn by most, but called “Sissy” by her family while growing up, was one of seven children born to Noah and Agnes (Sopcich) Tangeman. After graduating from South High School in Omaha in 1952, she began working for the Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy (CB&Q) Railroad that spring in the accounting department operating a comptometer.

It was while working at the CB&Q that Marilyn met the love of her life, Richard Lowell Thomas, who also worked for the CB&Q.  After a whirlwind eight month courtship, they were married on May 23, 1959, in Ralston, Nebraska. Marilyn and Lowell celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary this year.

Marilyn had numerous passions, not the least of which was shopping. She could find a bargain in any store she entered. She shopped so frequently in some stores that she and the sales staff were on a first name basis with each other.

Marilyn was part of a close-knit group of amazing women who laughed, cried, traveled, celebrated, and supported each other through good times and bad. She treasured each of these women and the friendship they shared.

Marilyn was deeply devoted to her Catholic faith and was a member of St. Frances Cabrini Parish for over 50 years. She loved the rosary and slept with her “special” beads under her pillow.

Marilyn was predeceased by her parents, Noah and Agnes Tangeman; her siblings, Geraldine Koziol, Arthur Tangeman, Lawrence Tangeman, her twin Marvin Tangeman, and Ronald Tangeman.

Marilyn is survived by her husband Lowell Thomas; her sister Agnes and sister-in-law Peg; her children:  Teresa, Paul, Mary, Melinda, and grandchildren:  Joshuah, Jacoby, and Bella and Gabriel.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mary Ann “Marilyn” Thomas will be held at the Chapel at Ellis Family Services, 13436 West Arbor Place, Littleton, Colorado 80127, on Monday, August 18th at 9:30 AM.  Private family committal following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Birthline of Colorado (1244 S. Wadsworth Blvd., Lakewood, CO 80226) or CatholicTV Network (www.catholictv.org).  The “Donate Now” links can be found under the DONATION banner below.
