MarJean Grass

Our sweet, dear wife and mother, MarJean Whitaker Grass, passed away quietly in her home on the morning of Wednesday, May 7, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was born on June 15, 1933, in Farmington, Utah, to Keith Wood Whitaker and Dorothy Madeline Bingham Whitaker. She was the oldest of six children: two sisters, LaDean and Barbara, and three brothers, Dennis, Don, and Dale.

She was the mother of five children, whom she lovingly called “her treasures”: Kenneth, Steven, Julie, Cindy, and Jaren. She has 27 grandchildren and 58 great-grandchildren.

MarJean graduated from West High School in Salt Lake City in 1951 and attended Brigham Young University.

She met the love of her life, George Vincent Grass, while working a summer job at Lagoon. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on November 4, 1953.

She was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings throughout her life. She served several missions: two full-time temple missions in Toronto, Canada, and Suva, Fiji, and two service missions at Dan Peterson School and Mutual Dell Girls’ Camp. She also served in the temple for over 13 years. She found great joy in serving the Lord alongside her husband.

MarJean was a wonderful example of how to live a meaningful and loving life. She enjoyed homemaking—canning, sewing, cooking, and gardening. She could sing and dance, and was always fully present with those around her. She took special care to make sure each of us felt deeply loved.

She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. She truly lived a long life of purpose and devotion.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, May 15, 2025 at the American Fork 14th Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 1100 E. 400 N., American Fork Utah, where a viewing will be held prior from 9:30 to 10:30 am. Interment will be in the American Fork Cemetery.
