In Loving Memory

Marie Sobhi Hanna

July 2, 1940 – June 5, 2025

It is with deep sorrow and great love that we announce the passing of Marie Sobhi Hanna, who departed this life peacefully on June 5, 2025, at the age of 84.

Marie was born on July 2, 1940, in Homs, Syria, to Sobhi and Julia. In 1956, she married the love of her life, the late Issa Hanna, and together they built a beautiful life in Damascus. For 30 years, Damascus was home—a place where she nurtured a growing family and embraced life with strength, warmth, and grace. In 1986, she immigrated permanently to the United States to reunite with her children and begin a new chapter.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister, Marie dedicated her life to her family. She raised four children—Ibrahim, Amer, Malak, and Abdo—with tireless love and unwavering support. Though she did not attend high school, her natural wisdom, resilience, and heart touched everyone who knew her. She taught herself to sew and knit and became a gifted cook, learning from her beloved mother-in-law, Malakeh, with whom she shared her home.

Marie was the heart of every room—full of life, radiant, and unforgettable. Her joyful spirit and warm presence made people feel at home, and she was deeply loved by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She is survived by her sons Ibrahim and Amer, her daughter Malak, and her cherished grandchildren: George, Mary, Andrew, Christina, Christopher, Nicholas, Michael, and Luke. She is also survived by her son-in-law Ihsan Hakimeh; daughters-in-law Patricia Hanna, Nabeela Hanna, and Maria Zulma Echevarria; her two brothers, Zouhair and Issa; her sister Rose; and many extended family members and friends whose lives she touched.

Her passions included cooking, sewing, and connecting with people. But her greatest achievement was building a home grounded in love, keeping her family united, and always choosing peace over conflict.

Marie’s life was a shining example of strength, grace, and unconditional love. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

A memorial service will be held at Saint Nicholas Church on Saturday, June 7 at 6 PM, followed by family visitation at 7 PM at the church’s hall.

The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, June 11 at 11:00 AM at Saint Nicholas Church, followed by a burial service at Valhalla Cemetery in North Hollywood at 1 PM.
