Margaret Petrie
1932 – 2025
It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Petrie, who died peacefully at her home in Kingston on October 7, 2025, at the age of 93.
Margaret was predeceased by her beloved husband, Howard, with whom she shared 59 years of marriage; her dearly loved son, Dave, who passed away 15 years ago; and her sisters Pat, Nancy, and Chris. She will be forever missed by her children Steve (Linda), Lou (Billy), Sheila (John), her daughter-in-law Pam (Dave), and adopted daughter Chris; her grandchildren Jennie (Scott), Lisa (Nate), Russell (Jen), Kyle (Petra), Cody (Cortney), and Madelen (Zach); her nine great-grandchildren; and her many adored nieces and nephews.
Margaret lived a full and vibrant life. She graduated from nursing school in Brantford in 1953 and went on to dedicate her career to caring for others. She also gave generously of her time through volunteer work with the Andy Fund and Palliative Care. Fiercely intelligent, she loved to engage in conversation and was never shy about sharing her opinions on matters of social and political importance. She embraced adventure-traveling the world through Ford trips, boating, and cherishing the company of countless friends. Margaret had a lifelong passion for sports and remained active on the tennis court and golf course well into her 80s. She was also a lover of books, puzzles, and all things creative-sewing, sketching, exploring fabric art, and preparing delicious meals for her family.
Above all, Margaret’s greatest pride was her family. Her warmth, laughter, and generosity of spirit will be treasured always.
A Celebration of Life will be held at James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 John Counter Blvd., Kingston, ON (Please enter from the rear parking lot) on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, from 3:00-6:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice or to Dying With Dignity Canada, in Margaret’s memory.
