Malcolm “Mac” Leask

Malcolm “Mac” Leask

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Malcolm (Mac) Loy Leask, who passed away at Vancouver General Hospital on October 5, 2025, at the age of 71, surrounded by his family. Mac fought a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on July 30, 1954, in Calgary, Alberta, Mac was raised on the family ranch in the Madden and Dartique areas. From a young age, he embraced the cowboy way of life – riding horses, competing in rodeo, playing hockey, and fishing along Dog Pound Creek.

A true cowboy at heart, Mac competed in steer riding, bull riding, steer wrestling, calf roping, and team roping, and also was hired as a pick-up man. His leadership and dedication were evident during his five-year term as President of the Foothills Cowboys Association.

In 1992, Mac and his wife Jackie, along with their two boys, moved to Dawson Creek British Columbia to continue ranching in a new region. There, he became President of the Regional Cattlemen’s Association in the North and was proud to be one of the founders of the Mile Zero Roping Club. Team roping was one of Macs passions and he was a student of the game. He and Jackie spent the last few winters roping together in Arizona.

Despite his many achievements, Mac’s greatest joy came from his family. He treasured roping and picking up alongside on his son Mac Jr., coaching Marty in hockey, and watching his granddaughters learn to ride and chase cows. His family was truly his pride and purpose.

Mac is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Jackie; sons Mac (Iris) Leask and Marty (Deni) Leask; his cherished granddaughters Macy, Sage, and Easton; brother George (Shannon) Leask; sister Terry Hargrave; mother-in-law Shirley Edge; brothers-in-law Duane (Judy) Edge, Lyle (Ruth) Edge, and Marty (Dixie) Edge; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

He was predeceased by his granddaughter Paisley Leask; parents Mac and Joyce Leask; brother John Leask; and father-in-law Norman Edge.

A celebration of Mac’s life will be held on Monday, October 27, 2025, at 1:00 pm at the Cutbank Hall in Arras, British Columbia.

Mac will be remembered for his cowboy spirit, his quiet manner, and deep love for his family and community.

Very Respectfully, Reynars Funeral Home & Crematorium
