Leona Ferrara

It is with deep sadness and love that we announce the passing of Leona (Lee) Theresa Ferrara. Leona was born on January 20, 1943. She was the youngest of four children (Alice, Albert, and Robert). Leona lost both of her parents at a young age however, she persevered with the love of her siblings and doting foster parents.

Leona is predeceased by her loving husband Richie. Together their love spanned six decades. It all began when they started dating in 1965. They soon became engaged on the 14th of February in 1967 and were then married October 14th, of the same year. The number 14 quickly became their lucky number as they welcomed both of their boys (Anthony and Raymond) on the 14th of their birth months.

Together Lee and Richie built a beautiful life that traveled from New York to New Jersey, back to New York, to Florida, and finally back to New York again. Each summer Lee enjoyed traveling with Richie and her boys to Wildwood, New Jersey for a week’s vacation. These trips were always recalled dearly and marked with laughter, late night card games, and walks along the boardwalk.

Lee also enjoyed hosting their annual open house Christmas party for her family and friends. She took great pleasure in finding the perfect gift for her loved ones at the holidays.

Lee enjoyed trying new recipes but took special pride in preparing chicken cacciatore each year for her and Richie’s wedding anniversary. For their 25th anniversary Lee and Richie traveled to Italy and Switzerland. They celebrated their 50th with a family party.

In 2006, Lee’s son Ray joined hands with Deborah Zaccaro in holy matrimony. Lee relished her role as mother-in-law and welcomed Deb into the family. Soon Lee became a nana to Jack, Benjamin, and Samuel. She will be remembered for her love of reading, puzzles, hosting, and generosity. Lee will be missed dearly by all.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to the American Heart Association.
