Leeta Mack

Leeta Mae Atkins Mack of Payson, AZ received her angel wings at home surrounded by family on Sunday October 05, 2025, after battling dementia.

Leeta was born December 10, 1938, in Conneaut, Ohio to Wayne Atkins, and Doris Hicks Atkins. She attended Rowe high school in Conneaut and was active in the choir; she loved to sing. She married her one and only, Rich Mack March 10, 1956. They moved to Scottsdale where Rich worked as a Scottsdale Deputy until 1966, he then went to work for Melroe Bobcat which gave Leeta the opportunity to travel to places like Hawaii, Spain, Florida etc., but she preferred to be at home with her family. Leeta enjoyed volunteering at Scottsdale Memorial Hospital in the early seventies, and loved wearing the cute lavender, (Her favorite color), pinafore jumpsuit. Leeta finally got her wish to move to a cooler climate in 2004, where they settled in Payson. She hated the heat, and Rich gave in since he moved her to AZ in July of all months back in the 60’s; she had paid her dues.

She was an avid reader, loved music, crosswords, jigsaw puzzles, card & board games, antique & thrift stores, sewing, crocheting, but mostly baseball. In 1998 the AZ Diamondbacks came to town; they immediately became her number one team, she would watch every game and kept score of each game until she no longer could.

Leeta’s greatest achievement was devoting her life to her family; she gave her life unselfishly for her five children, her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and her friends. All who knew her loved her. She was selfless, loving, caring, amazingly strong, devoted, uniquely funny and the most patient person you would ever know. Her smile lit up the room, and she truly was, “The Best Mom Ever.”

Leeta was preceded in death by her husband Rich, Son Garry, granddaughter Shannen, her mother Doris and father Wayne. She leaves behind her loving children, Barry, Sharry, (Nathan), Tarry, (Greg), Karry, (Gil), Sister Jean Baker, Brother Wayne Atkins, twelve grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

She was an angel on earth, and now an angel in heaven. We have a huge hole in our hearts, but we will hold on to each memory of her until we meet again.

A celebration of life is scheduled for, December 10, 2025, at 11:30 am with a reception lunch to follow; We would love if you wore lavender or purple, Leeta’s favorite color.
