Kenneth R. Whiddon Sr.
Kenneth R. Whiddon, Sr., age 83, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2025, in Tallahassee, Florida. Born on October 27, 1941, in Bainbridge, Georgia to Claude and Louise Whiddon, Kenneth lived a life defined by dedication, craftsmanship, and deep-rooted love for his family and land.
From an early age, Kenneth embodied the values of hard work and perseverance. He came of age during the era of tobacco farming and carried that same grit into every chapter of his life. A master electrician and millwright by trade, Kenneth was also a country store owner and a lifelong farmer who took considerable pride in working his cherished 40 acres. Known as a true “Jack of all Trades,” he approached every task with precision and care—always measuring twice and cutting once, down to 1/32nd of an inch.
Kenneth’s legacy is deeply intertwined with the family he built and nurtured alongside his beloved wife of over 64 years, Kay McClellan Whiddon of Quincy, Florida. Together they raised a close-knit family that continues to reflect the strength and values he held dear. He is survived by his children: Debbie Giles (Rusty) of Quincy; Kenneth R. Whiddon, Jr. (Lewis) of Decatur, GA; Lynn Martin (Tim) of Quincy; Teresa Myer (Lynn) of Marietta, GA; and Angel Johnson (John) of Marianna, FL. His grandchildren—Chason Smith (Shanna) of Tallahassee; Rachele Hollis (Garrett) of Mableton, GA; Justin Martin (Melissa) of Auburn, AL; Buddy James Martin II of Quincy; Becca Lynn Hens (Justin) of Hahira, GA; Jessie Genson (Mike) of Marietta, GA; Sidney Johnson (Kyle), and Hayley Lewis (Josh), both of Gretna—were a source of immense pride and joy to him. He also leaves behind nine great-grandchildren with a tenth soon to arrive.
Kenneth is also survived by his brother Jack Whiddon (Jean); sisters-in-law Cindy Whiddon and Mary Whiddon; sister-in-law Patsy Harrell (David); brothers-in-law Charles McClellan (Barbara) and Mark McClellan (Melanie); along with numerous nieces and nephews who were touched by his wisdom and warmth.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers William and Larry Whiddon; sister Iva Nell Broome and her husband Fred; mother-in-law Verna McClellan Whittle; and brother-in-law Henry McClellan. Kenneth’s life was one marked by integrity, skillful hands, and an unwavering commitment to doing things right. His legacy lives on through the generations he helped shape—and through every fence post set straight or beam aligned just so on the land he loved. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
A Visitation will be held on August 30, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Sylvania United Methodist Church located at 820 Hutchinson Ferry Road in Faceville, GA with a Celebration of Life led by Tim Martin immediately following. Pallbearers are Ricky Whiddon, Dan Broome, Wayne Whiddon, Leslie Whiddon, Lance Whiddon, Mac McClellan, Derek McClellan, and Jack McClellan.
