Julia Plagerman

Julia (Hoekstra) Plagerman was born in Downey California on February 15, 1934, to Metske and Florence (Vos) Hoekstra. In the fall of 1941, the family moved to Lynden Washington. Her father was a dairy farmer, and the family lived and farmed on several different places in the county before settling on the Enterprise Road.

She attended Lynden Christian school and graduated in 1952. She attended business college in Bellingham and worked at Whatcom Physician services until she married Durwyn Plagerman in 1957. After living in Everett while Durwyn worked at the plywood mill they bought a dairy farm on Central Road in Everson and raised their family of 4 children there.

As an active member of Mountain View Christian Reformed Church, Julia filled in whenever called upon. From preparing food for those in need, to helping make quilts, she enjoyed the camaraderie of those she served alongside with. Outside of church Julia also volunteered at the Lynden food bank and World Concern.

Julia lived a full life loving her Lord and sharing her kind and loving heart to everyone around her, especially her family. With her kitchen apron on and food always ready, all were welcome for lunch or dinner.

She is survived by, four children, Janice Collins, Ron (Jody) Plagerman, Duwayne (Candys) Plagerman, and Richard (Cindy) Plagerman; Ten grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; Sister, Evelyn VanderVeen; Sisters-in-law, Marge Hoekstra, Pat Hoekstra, Glenda Hoekstra; Brothers-in-law, Ray Tjoelker, Stan VanderVeen

She is proceeded in death and now reunited with her husband, Durwyn Plagerman; Parents, Metske and Florence Hoekstra; Brothers, Melvin Hoekstra, Hank Hoekstra, Frank Hoekstra, and Dennis Hoekstra, and sister Gert Tjoelker; and Son-in-law, Andy Collins

From singing in the church choir or standing next to her in the pews, her beautiful voice resonated her passion of a loving God. Although her voice was stilled the last few years, it brings us great comfort and joy in knowing she is singing in God’s choir now!

A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 7th at 10 a.m. in Ten Mile Cemetery. Following will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. at Mountain View CRC on the Old Guide Rd., Lynden. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Gillies Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
