We come to you with heavy hearts to share the news of the passing of Joseph Pietracatella, affectionately known as Joe to his friends and loved ones. Joe was a lifelong resident of Staten Island, where he was born on January 16, 1935 and where he passed away on September 14, 2025.
A devoted family man, Joe leaves behind his beloved wife Mona of 65 years. Joe was a loving father to his sons Michael and Joseph, and father-in-law to Stephanie and Lorraine. His role as a grandfather was cherished deeply, as he adored his grandchildren Nicole and Glen Kartalis, Jenna, Michael, and Samantha Pietracatella, each of whom brought a unique joy to his life.
Joe proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. After his military service, Joe continued his life of service by joining the New York City Fire Department 1959. He was promotion to the rank of Lieutenant in 1977 and in 1991 he retired with 32 years of service. Joe’s colleagues in the FDNY remember him as a man who led by example, always ready to offer a helping hand.
Joe’s interests and hobbies brought joy not only to him but also to those around him. He enjoyed playing racquetball in his younger years and found delight in the simple pleasures of life, such as going on trips to Atlantic City with his wife and their friends, enjoying the excitement and laughter of those getaways. Joe also cherished the times he spent going out to dinner and movies.
As we bid farewell to Joseph Pietracatella, we celebrate a life well-lived—a life filled with love, and joy. His memory will continue to inspire and guide us. Joe’s journey on this earth was a blessing to all who knew him, and his influence will be felt for generations to come. We honor his memory today and always. Rest in peace, Joe. Your story is one of a life beautifully lived and will be remembered with warmth and admiration.
