Mr. John Calvin Segraves, better known as Johnny, age 82, of West Jefferson, North Carolina, passed away at his residence on Monday morning, October 13, 2025.

Johnny was born on September 10, 1943, in Ashe County to the late Worth and Maggie Brooks Segraves. A devoted member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church, he not only participated in the life of the congregation but also shared his faith and wisdom by teaching Sunday School. His commitment to his church and community was a testament to his character and the values he held dear.

An avid outdoorsman, Johnny found joy in hunting and fishing, activities that allowed him to connect with nature and create lasting memories with family and friends. He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, and his camaraderie with his fellow servicemen, including Fred Alexander, Wayne Chattaway, and his close friends Johnny Meeks, Bruce Mathers, and Richard Codwell, was a cherished part of his life.

Johnny’s legacy is carried on by his beloved wife, Ollie Taylor Segraves, and his family, which includes three sisters: Carol Davis of Deep Gap, Pat Blevins of Creston, and Brenda Simmons of Lansing; five brothers: Steve Segraves (Linda) of West Jefferson, Lee Segraves (Carol Lee) of Warrensville, Roy Segraves (Debbie) of Warrensville, Phil Segraves (Pat) of Laurel Springs, and Roger Segraves (Mary) of Sparta. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Nicholas Gregory and Olivia Brown, and two great-grandchildren, Freya and Dalia Brown, along with several nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.

In addition to his parents, Johnny was preceded in death by two children.

The family will receive friends on Friday, October 17, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Mount Vernon Baptist Church Cranberry Creek Road, Laurel Springs, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM, officiated by Rev. Bennie Roten and Rev. Dale Ring. Burial will take place in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens, where military rites will be rendered in honor of his service.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Kevin Wolfe, Dr. Jayne Leonard, and Dr. Mandy Lanier for their compassionate care during Johnny’s life.
