John Cecil Thompson, 87, of Fort Gay, WV passed away Friday, May 23, 2025 at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington, WV. Funeral services will be conducted 12:00 p.m. Thursday, May 29, 2025 at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne with Pastor Darin Fetherolf officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Wayne. He was born August 2, 1937 at Genoa, WV, a son of the late Ercel and Ferbia Copley Thompson. John worked as a mechanic at the former W & J Chevrolet and was a member of the Wayne County Genealogical and Historical Society. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Lee Dean Thompson, a daughter, Gwendolyn Jean Thompson-Fetherolf, a son, William “Leroy” Thompson, four brothers, Abner Odell, Jennings Milroy, Robert Glen, and Annias Franklin Thompson , a daughter-in-law, Melissa Sue Thompson, and a step-grandson, Paris Anthony Robertson. Survivors include two sons, John Clinton Thompson (Sandra) of Genoa; and Jeffery Cecil Thompson (Robin) of Huntington, WV; nine grandchildren, Tina, Erica (Wade), Jonathan, Megan (Todd), Amanda (Chris), Jason (Allison), William (Pham), Nathan (Brooke) and Avery; seventeen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until service time Thursday at Morris Funeral Home, Wayne.
