John Shipley

John R. Shipley U.S. Navy Veteran, long time IBEW Local 9 Member, Emergency Traffic Signal Repairman.

John R. Shipley, age 78 of Orland Park, IL passed away on October 16, 2025.

Born on February 1,1947, John answered the call of duty at a young age and served honorably in the United States Navy during the Vietnam era. He was aboard the USS Enterprise (CVN 65) during his service, where he carried out his naval duties with dedication and pride. His time in uniform was marked by loyalty, perseverance, and a steadfast commitment to his shipmates.

After his naval service, John returned to civilian life and pursued a career that reflected his sense of responsibility and public service. For 45 years he was a devoted member of IBEW Local 9, where he worked on critical infrastructure and served his community. During that tenure, he became known especially for his work as an Emergency Traffic Signal Repairman, responding at all hours to ensure intersections remained safe and functional. His technical skill, reliability, and calm in urgent situations earned him the respect and gratitude of his peers and the public alike.

Beyond his professional life, John was a devoted life partner/father/grandfather/uncle and friend; a person of integrity, quiet strength, and steady presence. He enjoyed family, motorcycle rides, travel, and he was always ready with a helping hand or a story from his Navy days.

He is survived by his loving life partner, Lisa Page; his children, Tim Shipley (Lauren) and Nicole Anglada (Joe); his grandchildren, Mackenzie, Preston, and Peyton Shipley; his “other girls,” LaRae, Stacey, Alexandra, Victoria, Jesalyn; and his siblings, Tony, Linda, Billy, and Debby.

He was preceded in death by his parents John Shipley and Maria “Didi” Hogan.

John will be remembered for his devotion to country, his unwavering work ethic, and his gift for bringing quiet calm to moments of crisis. He served both in war and in everyday life, always putting others first—and we can all say the lights were working when John left.
