John (Johnny) Cox was promoted to his heavenly home on June 1, 2025. He was born in Elkin on February 9, 1948, to Claude Cox and Margie Norman Cox. He is survived by siblings Don (Gail) Cox and Janet Cox-Hurt
He is also survived by his wife of almost 53 years Guylene Wright Cox; son Brent, his wife Kelli and their children Reagan and Taylor; son Jonathan, his wife Stephanie and their children Lily and Sam; sister in law Janice Lambey and her husband Tommy; and several nieces and nephews.
After graduating from East Wilkes High School John attended East Carolina University. After four years of college he was drafted into the Army. He was sent to Vietnam where he served as a medic. After being discharged from the Army he worked at Abitibi, which was Louisiana Pacific when he retired.
John was a loving husband, father, and Pa. He was a loyal friend, and was always willing to help others in need. He was a faithful member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where he served in many capacities over the years. He will be missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Elkin, NC on Saturday, June 7, with visitation from 1:30 until 2:30, followed by the service at 2:30.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the 4-G Campaign at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church 593 Pleasant Hill Drive, Elkin, NC 28621, or to Mountain Valley Hospice, PO Box 325, Dobson, NC 27017.
A special thanks to all who have been supportive of the family during John’s long journey with Alzheimer’s.
