Jo Ellen Engnell
1938-2025
Maysville, Missouri….Jo Ellen Engnell, age 86, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2025, in Maysville, Missouri. She was born November 17, 1938, in Boone, Iowa, to George A. and Mamie Lucille (Watkins) Sparks.
Jo Ellen was united in marriage to the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Engnell, in 1957 in their hometown of Boone, Iowa. Together they raised their two sons and shared 62 wonderful years filled with love, laughter, and faith until Bob’s passing in 2019.
Jo Ellen found great joy in reading and spent many years sharing that passion while working at the Maysville Library. She also served the community faithfully for 27 years as the Associate Circuit Court Clerk of Dekalb County, where she formed many lasting friendships. She delighted in watching movies, visiting with friends, and cherishing time with family. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was a devoted member of Amity United Methodist Church, where she especially loved playing the piano during services. Music, books, and community filled her days, but nothing brought her more happiness than being with her sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bob; her parents; and brother, George A. Sparks.
Survivors include her two sons, Brent Robert Engnell and Brad Jeffery Engnell; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at Turner Family Funeral Home of Maysville, Missouri with Visitation one hour prior to Funeral services.
In honor of Jo Ellen’s love for books, memorial contributions may be made to the Maysville Library.
