Obituary

In Loving Memory of Jean Young

Jean Young (Lai Jean Chan) beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away

peacefully on July 3, 2025, at the age of 96. Born on September 2, 1929, in Taisan, China, Jean

immigrated to the United States in 1948, where she married businessman Gam Young (Gem Hoi

Young).

Jean is survived by her brothers, Steve Chin and Harry Wong, by her children, Cindy and Mike

Kumamoto, William and Bonnie Young, and Ray and Sandy Young, and her grandchildren, Will

and Holly Young, Caleb and Charissa Kumamoto, and Kelsey and Michael Young. She also leaves

behind her great grandchildren, Ian, Lane and Grace Hartshorne, Miles, Lily and Eden Young,

Maverick and Eli Kumamoto, and Abby and Liam Olding.

Jean was a role model for being a generous and loving mother and friend and she touched all

who knew her with her kindness. Family and friends alike have praised Jean for her

considerable love and caring, that often were expressed through food. Gatherings at

restaurants gave her great joy and having friends and family enjoy food together made her the

happiest.

For some time, Jean longed for the day to be with the Lord in Heaven. Praise be to God as Jean

is now experiencing the pure love, joy and blessing that she waited so patiently for.

A service to honor and celebrate her life will be held at Chun Fook Funeral Services on Saturday,

July 12 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. and on Sunday, July 13 from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m., followed by her

burial.

Lunch will follow.

Dear Faithful Friends,

I have two pieces of news requesting your support.

My prayer needs now are for the planning of my August trip to Zambia for the OM Love Africa Missions Conference and then on to Ghana to visit the several ministries there that Freedom Challenge is helping to support. I will be traveling again with Brenda, who joined me when we went to Malawi and Madagascar last June. I am frustrated by the slowness of the responses from Africa as we really need to purchase our plane tickets soon. Please pray all the details for this complicated trip come together smoothly. I will send out details and dates before we leave so I will have your prayer support while traveling

Secondly, I have signed up for the prayer team for our Adirondacks Freedom Challenge in September. The more I visit ministries, the more I see how these funds either help the most oppressed women and children become less vulnerable to human trafficking or help them be rescued and restored. My goal is to raise $10,000! A surprise gift has already been received for $4500!!!!! I want to ask that you help me reach my goal. We have a new platform for raising funds. When you click on the link below, go to the Donate and Register red button, click “I’d just like to donate” and my account will pop up.

PS I will be gone this upcoming week to our FC team retreat in Colorado. We will be doing budget planning for fiscal year 2026 and 2027. Please also pray for the Lord’s guidance and we make many planning decisions. Our FY starts the first of October.
