Eulogy
Family and Friends,
Carmen, Dolores, and Becky would like to thank you for being here today to celebrate and honor our brother’s life. We are sure he would be humbled and honored by your presence.
Javier was one of four children, and grew up in San Diego and National City, CA. Javier attended Florence Elementary School in San Diego through the fourth grade. In April of 1963 the family moved to National City, where Javier attended Olivewood Elementary School, National City Junior High School, and Sweetwater High School.
Javier enlisted in the Air Force, during his senior year at Sweetwater, with an induction date scheduled for June 27, 1971, which was just shortly after his high school graduation.
While in the Air Force, Javier was stationed in San Antonio, TX; Denver, CO; Washington DC, and Obregon, Spain. Javier was one of the military members who stood guard during the 1973 Presidential inauguration parade in Washington DC.
After serving in the Air Force, Javier held a wide variety of jobs, from instructional aide to sales clerk, to delivery driver, and to courier driver. After years of working in those various jobs, Javier decided to become a chauffeur since he enjoyed driving and meeting new people.
Being a chauffeur offered Javier the perfect opportunity to drive people to and from the airports and cruise terminals. He enjoyed pointing out San Diego sites to his passengers and would also share San Diego trivia and history to them.
Javier had been working as a chauffeur for about 15 years when we saw that our parents needed 24/7 care at home. Javier decided that the timing was right for him to retire, and to transition from being a chauffeur to being their primary caregiver. Javier truly enjoyed taking care of our parents, and would often tell us that taking care of them was the most fulfilling job he ever had.
Javier was a big sports fan, and he especially enjoyed watching the Chargers, Padres, and San Diego State games in person or at home. The TV was always on a sports station.
Javier loved all kinds of music, and he would spend his free time listening to music. His favorite band was Santana, and he saw them in concert in San Diego, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Tijuana.
Javier was a strong, generous and caring person with a great sense of humor. He was a beloved son, father, brother, uncle, nino, cousin, grandfather, and friend. Javier had a big heart, and loved everyone he met. He is survived by his daughter, granddaughter, sisters, nieces, nephews, and cousins. We love him and will miss him forever.
Thank you – we would like to end with a greeting that Javier posted just last month:
“To my family and friends – Happy Thanksgiving! I’m feeling good and grateful. Love and kindness and blessings to all.”
