James Daniel “Danny” Trader, 78, of Springfield, passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2025. He was born on November 12, 1946, in Springfield, son of James L. and Verna B. (Rude) Trader. He married Rosemary on July 28, 1965, and she preceded him in death August 9, 2024.
He is survived by his daughters, Dolly (Mike Maxfield) Murray of Auburn and Jenny (Jeff) Abbott of Decatur; siblings, Mary (Nick) Stevens of Dawson, Bill Trader of Loami; and Beverly Wires of Ashmore; sister-in-law, Angie Trader of Greenfield; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Danny is preceded in death by his parents; wife; and siblings, Wayne Trader, Barb Chism, and Bonnie Wires.
Danny cherished his family deeply. He enjoyed spending time with loved ones, spontaneous drives with no set destination, watching Westerns and listening to classic country music.
He spent most of his career installing basements throughout Springfield and the surrounding area—first with D.A. Campo, and later as the owner of Trader Concrete Foundations and TCF Trucking. A jack of all trades, Danny was known for offering invaluable advice on many topics. According to his girls, there was nothing he couldn’t do.
His warmth, humor, and generosity will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
The family is deeply grateful to the staff at Concordia’s Reach for their attentive care and unwavering kindness during Dad’s time there.
Visitation: 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Monday, May 12, 2025, at Staab Funeral Home -Springfield.
Funeral Service: 10:00 am, Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or American Cancer Society.
