James A. “Jim” Massey, Jr., born on May 20, 1945, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2025, at the age of 80, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease at New Martinsville Healthcare and Rehabilitation.
Jim was a dedicated and hardworking man, spending many years as a coal miner at Shoemaker Mine before retiring. His work ethic and commitment to providing for his family were evident throughout his life.
Outside of work, Jim found joy in simple pleasures. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing softball. Some of his fondest memories were made camping at Tappan Lake, where he cherished time spent with family and friends. Above all, Jim adored his grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ruth (Higgins) Massey, Sr., his beloved grandson, Joshua James McGinnis, and several siblings.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Juanita (Littleton) Massey, who stood by his side through thick and thin. He leaves behind his loving children: Jennifer (Daniel) Teachout of Portage Lake, OH; Martin Massey of Fort Myers, FL; and Joy (Robert) Bucklew of Middlebourne, WV, 5 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren as well as his faithful K-9 companion, Bo. He is also survived by his sister, Ruth Ann (Charles) Myers, who shared a special bond with him.
Please honor Jim’s memory with a memorial contribution to the WV Alzheimer’s Association, 1601 2nd Ave, Charleston, WV 25387, to support research and aid for those affected by this challenging disease.
Jim will be remembered for his warmth, his dedication to his family, and the love he shared with all who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
