Greenhouse Garden Center in Carson City is celebrating the peak of the gardening season with a full calendar of events this August. From seminars on drought-tolerant landscaping to hands-on planting workshops, there’s something for every green thumb — and those just getting started. All seminars are held at the Greenhouse Garden Center, located at 2450 S. Curry Street in Carson City.
- Saturday, Aug. 2, Bonsai Club, led by local expert Ken Jones. Gardeners of all levels are welcome to explore the art of bonsai from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., with no RSVP required.
- Saturday, Aug. 16, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Brian hosts a seminar on Ornamental Grasses, focusing on drought-tolerant varieties that thrive in Northern Nevada. The $5 class fee benefits a local charity.
- Sunday, Aug. 17, at 10:30 a.m. Get your hands dirty with Tiffany during the Succulent Bowl Workshop. Admission is $50; participants will create a beautiful living centerpiece. RSVP required.
- Saturday, August 23, at 10 a.m., Grapes & Berries, with David Ruf, owner of Greenhouse Garden Center, offering tips for cultivating fruit in Nevada’s high desert climate. The $5 class fee benefits a local charity.
- Saturday, Aug. 30, Ruf returns with a timely Firescaping seminar on defensible landscape design. The $5 class fee benefits a local charity.
“August is when the garden reaches its full potential,” Ruf said. “These events are designed to help gardeners take advantage of the season while preparing for what’s next.”
