Gertrude Klinger

Gertrude “Gertie” Gruby Klinger, a beloved matriarch and a pillar of strength, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2025, in Scottsdale, Arizona, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born in Sierpc, Poland on February 28, 1929, Gertie’s life journey was marked by resilience, love, and a profound commitment to her faith and family.

Gertie’s early education in Poland was cut short by the war, but she never allowed her circumstances to dampen her spirit. Upon arriving in the United States, she embraced the English language. Her tenacity and sales skills were further demonstrated through her work prior to marriage, where she excelled as an exceptional saleswoman, selling World Book Encyclopedias door to door with unparalleled charm and skill.

Family was the cornerstone of Gertie’s world. She was the loving mother to Eva Freud Feldman and her husband Cary, Sara Thorholm and her husband Gary, and Harold Klinger and his wife Penny. Her legacy continued with her cherished grandchildren, Michael Freud, Joey Witz, Jeffrey Bryner and his wife Carly, Jennifer Bryner, Mallory Klinger, Steffany Klinger, and great-grandchildren, Reese and Jordan Bryner.

Being a holocaust survivor, Judaism was always front and center with lighting shabbat candles, attending Shabbat services and celebrating most Jewish holidays.

Gertie was a woman of deep faith and an active member of the Jewish community. Her commitment to Judaism was not only evident in her observance but also in her actions. She was a dedicated volunteer at Solel Temple.

Her zest for life was infectious, and she embraced a multitude of interests that kept her vibrant and youthful at heart. Gertie was an avid cook, known for her delectable dishes that brought friends and family together. She loved staying active, whether it was through aerobics, yoga, fast walking, biking, swimming, ping pong and dancing.

Gertrude had hundreds of sayings that we all heard often. Her famous saying was “Thanks God for another Day” She never missed a chance to contribute positively to the lives around her. Her selfless nature and wise counsel were sources of comfort and guidance to many.

As we remember Gertie, we are reminded that her spirit will continue to inspire and motivate us. She was the embodiment of love, selflessness, and wisdom, touching the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. Her memory will forever be a blessing, and her legacy will live on through the lives she impacted.

May the life of Gertrude “Gertie” Gruby Klinger be an enduring source of light and inspiration, and may her soul be bound up in the bond of eternal life.
