Passed away on May 31, 2025 at the age of 108 at his home of many years. Predeceased by his wife Margarite. Survived by sons Jerry Jr. and Jeffrey; brother Tom (Linda); granddaughter Rev. Mary Kathleen; grandson Paul David (Mariel) Schmitt; great-granddaughters Emma & Meg Schmitt; nephews Cory (Briana), Sean (Emily) Schmitt, Jim, Jeff (Debbie), John (Theresa) Kraus; grandnieces Jennifer Kraus, Lindsey (Chris) Kincaid, Mia, Clara Schmitt; grandnephews Jeff, JR (Noel), Jimmy (Lucia) Kraus, Griffin & Emmett Schmitt.
Born in the 10th ward in Rochester. Attended Nazareth Hall, graduating in 1930, and Aquinas Institute graduating in 1934. He received degrees in Mechanical, Electrical and Industrial engineering from Mechanics Institute (RIT). Worked for Rochester Products Division of GM from 1939 till 1982 when he retired as Supervising Engineer of the Research Labs. Chairman of ASTM Section F3 Gaskets from 1980 – 1983.
He loved his family, God, country and his wife of 68 years who described him as the “Most wonderful man in the world.” Together they raised a family, pursued their careers and traveled the world in search of lovely experiences meeting new people. He had a lifelong passion for photography, for horticulture and for learning. He touched the lives of everyone he met. Wonderful is the word we’ll all remember him by because wonderful is the life he lived. He will be missed but never forgotten.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Louis Church, Pittsford New York on Thursday, June 26th at 1:00 PM to be followed by interment at White Haven Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or local hospice services.
