Gerald Winkler

Gerald A Winkler (Jerry), 84, of Poughkeepsie, NY, passed away on April 19, 2025. Born on September 1, 1940, in Beacon, NY, he was a devoted husband to Diane (his wife of 61 years) and a loving father to Paige and Darren.

Jerry was hard-working and dedicated. He spent 29 years working as a paint specialist (dubbed “Jerry the Paint God”) at Home Depot and prior as building guru at Bry Dain Lumber Co. He was known for his kind and gentle spirit, giver of respected advice and fun-loving wit. Despite his many responsibilities, he always made time for his family, friends, and customers.

Though he may not have liked being the center of attention, he deserves to have his long years of love honored. He gave deeply to his community as a volunteer fire fighter and later joined the Army Reserve. His interests included fishing, boating and his beloved rescue pets.

He was a man of integrity, kindness, generosity, and loyalty, and he left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

He is predeceased by his brother, Bob and his parents, Helen and August. He is survived by his wife Diane, children: Paige Lockwood (Robert) and Darren, grandchildren: Blaire, Mackenzie, John, Aiden, Asher, Emma and Avery, and several nieces and nephews as well as many friends and extended family members who will miss him dearly.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, April 30th from 4-8pm at William G. Miller & Son Funeral Home, Inc. 371 Hooker Ave Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May 1st at 10am at Christ Episcopal Church 20 Carroll Street Poughkeepsie, NY.

 In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hudson Valley Animal Rescue & Sanctuary (https://www.hvars.org/donate), a cause close to Jerry’s heart.

We find comfort in knowing that Jerry’s legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish forever.
