With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of George Franklin Connors, Jr., beloved husband, father, PopPop, and a dedicated servant to his community. George passed away peacefully on September 27, 2025 with his wife and children surrounding him. He was 84 years old.
Born in Hornell, NY to Ann (Morris) and George F. Connors, Sr., George was raised alongside his siblings James, Gerard, Joan (Conti), and his twin, William. He earned his bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from the University of Buffalo and master’s degree in Hospital Administration from Xavier University. In 1966, George married the love of his life, Barbara Lanahan, in Corning and together they built a beautiful life, family, careers, and businesses in their hometown.
George truly loved to serve others. As a young man, he was a dedicated altar server and worked at the local Dunn’s pharmacy. Driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, George successfully combined his pharmacy and hospital administration background to create thriving businesses in pharmacy, home health, as well as a gift shop. As a pharmacist, independent pharmacy owner and owner of a Community Home Health Company, he spent long hours providing healthcare to the greater Corning community area. He treated each customer with respect and compassion, ensuring they received the medication and medical equipment they needed. His service extended to the community through his active involvement on various boards, including the Corning Hospital Board of Directors and the Three Rivers Development Corporation Board among others. He was a trusted confidant, counselor, and supporter to his family and friends, and his eternal optimism made everyone who knew him feel special.
George was a die-hard fan of the Buffalo Bills and Duke Blue Devils. He enjoyed golf, music, dancing, bocce, horseshoes, and swimming at the beach. He was the family’s expert grill master and holiday turkey carver. Above all, he prioritized his family and cherished their time together at the shore in Stone Harbor, NJ.
George was predeceased by his parents, brothers James (Katie), Gerard (Eileen), William Connors, sister Joan (John) Conti, brothers in law Timothy Lanahan, Bryan Lanahan, John (Ace) Lanahan, sister in law MaryAnn (Arthur) Stilwell, nephews Timothy, William Jr, Kevin Connors, and niece Ann McCombs.
George’s legacy of love and service continues through his wife Barbara; his children Kathleen (John) O’Connor of Skaneateles, Laura (David) Kopp of Victor, Patrick (Trish) Connors of Mendon, Teresa (Mark) McSwain of Skaneateles, Moira (Adam) Platzer of Brighton; his 18 grandchildren John, Daniel (Madeline), Thomas (Devon), Grace O’Connor, Sarah (Drew Krueger), Paul, Katie, Eileen Kopp, Ryan, Molly, Claire, Maeve Connors, Georgia, Eleanor, Caroline, Tara McSwain, Lilly, and Rory Platzer; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to an organization that helps others or that you invest in quality time with your family.
Friends and family are invited to call at Anthony Funeral Chapel, 2305 Monroe Ave, Rochester, on Friday, October 10, 2025, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. George’s funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at his church, St. Catherine of Siena, 26 Mendon-Ionia Rd, Mendon.
