Fannie Pearl Collins age 94 of Malone, FL passed away Thursday May 29, 2025 at Riverchase Health and Rehabilitation Center in Quincy, FL surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral services will be held 11a.m. CST Saturday June 7th 2025 at McChapel A.M.E Church located 4963 Old US Road Marianna, FL with the Rev. Darnell West officiating. Internment will follow in the church cemetery with Mckinnie Funeral Home of Campbellton, FL directing.
Public visitation will be held from 5 to 7p.m. CST Friday June 6th 2025 at Mckinnie Funeral Home located 5304 Bowden Hill Rd Campbellton, FL.
Mrs. Collins was born August 3, 1930, west of Malone, Florida. She attended secondary schools at Pope Chapel School, McChapel School and Snow Hill School until it closed. She attended post-secondary school at Chipola College and Florida A & M University. A deaconess in the African Methodist Episcopal church, she was active throughout her life as a Christian missionary, military spouse, community activist, and family genealogist. In 1944 at the age of 14, she became a United Christian Aide Lodge member, and in her later years became the first female president of her lodge. She joined the Order of the Eastern Star # 52 in 1985. At her church, McChapel AME, Marianna, FL, she was president of the Women’s Missionary Society for eight years. She began the first Young People’s Department (YPD) for her church and later became director of the Marianna District which encompassed 21 YPD departments. As a military spouse she became involved in the Gray Ladies (a military wives hospital volunteer organization), the Enlisted Men’s Wives Club, and the cub scouts with her children. She worked tirelessly in her community for civil rights as a member of the NAACP, promoting voting rights through voter registration drives and as the first Black poll worker in her precinct. She was also at the forefront of school integration in 1965 at Malone High School. Later she would work at Malone High School as a teacher’s aide, as a health support aide at the Jackson County Health Department and after retirement, with the McKinnie Funeral Home. She was a people person, passionate about her community and doing all that she could to improve the lives of others.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 21 years Tyler Collins Sr., and her parents, Walter Blanks and Ethel Rivers.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children Tyler Collins Jr (Betty), Jackie Collins Robinson (Charles) and Clifford Collins (Andrea); grandchildren: Devin Collins, Patrick Collins (Ashley), Jason Collins (Nancy), Jordan Collins (Rodica) Aleeka Robinson, Curtis (Cecelia) Holton; great grandchildren: Jordan Cash, Maxwell, Aryanna, Jaxon, and Bakari.
The family would like to thank the staff of Riverchase Health & Rehabilitation Center, and Big Bend Hospice, Inc. Quincy, Fl for their loving care and compassion.
