Schenectady – Etta J. Van Der Werken, 70, of Schenectady, NY passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday October 21, 2025 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady.
Born on August 3, 1955 in Schenectady, NY she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Joan Marmaduke Abare. She was a lifelong area resident and attended local schools.
Etta was a homemaker and had a very devout faith. She was a communicant of St. Michaels Chapel in Glenmont.
In addition to her parents she was also predeceased by her husband, Robert Van Der Werken who died on January 1, 1986.
Survivors include her longtime companion, David A. Thompson of Schenectady; her brother, Kenneth L. (Kimberly) Abare of Ballston Lake; nephew, Kenneth J. Abare; niece, Robin Dutcher; and 3 great nephews, Daniel Abare, and Everett and Alexander Cardona.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday from 6 until 8pm at Lights Funeral Home, 1428 State St., Schenectady.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11am at St. Michaels Chapel, 507 US-9W, Glenmont, NY. Burial will follow in St. Josephs Cemetery, Schenectady.
