Douglas Sheriff’s deputy assists Homeland Security investigations in arrest of online child predator
- February 18, 2025

Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Mackenzie “Mack” Miller played a key role in the recent arrest of James Martin, 32, for Coercion and Enticement of a Child for Sexual Activity under 18 U.S. Code 2422.
Martin was taken into custody on Feb. 13, 2025, following an undercover operation involving the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Idaho Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and the Pocatello Police Department.
“I am incredibly proud of Deputy Miller for his exceptional work on this case,” said Sheriff Dan Coverley. “His dedication to protecting children and his commitment to bringing predators to justice reflects the high standard of professionalism we strive for at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.”
The investigation began on Jan. 25, 2025, when Deputy Miller, serving as an HSI Reno Task Force Officer, engaged in an online conversation with Martin. Posing as a 13-year-old girl, Deputy Miller documented Martin’s unlawful communications, which ultimately resulted in Martin arranging a meeting with the child persona.
On Feb. 13, Martin arrived at a prearranged location in Pocatello, Idaho, where he was arrested by HSI Idaho Falls, HSI Reno, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, the Pocatello Police Department, and the Idaho ICAC Task Force. The arrest was made without incident.
