Doris Marie Scott, 87, of Scottsville, KY, went home to Jesus on Tuesday, October 14th, 2025, while at the Greenwood Nursing & Rehab in Bowling Green, KY. Her life began in Petoskey, MI, on June 22nd, 1938.

Doris was a former employee of Home Lawn Sanitarium and Harmon Motive, both in Martinsville, and later worked as a manager at the Dollar Depot in Sebring, FL. She had also worked as a CNA at Mariner Health Home in Bradenton, FL.

Doris and her husband, Delbert, whom she married in Martinsville, Indiana, on October 28th, 1976, joined White Plains Baptist Church in Scottsville, KY in 2005, remaining a faithful member until her passing. The two spent the first 13 years of their married life in Martinsville, before moving to Florida in 1989 and eventually settling in Scottsville, KY.

Aside from church activities and family, Doris loved reading and doing various crafts.

She is survived by her husband, Delbert “Bud” Scott of Scottsville, KY; two sons, Robert Scott Rutan and fiancĂ©e, Mary Shockley, of Plainfield, IN and Patrick Lee Rutan and wife, Leigha, of Avon, IN; brother, Gordon McGarey of Dewitt, MI; half-sister, Linda Schwartz of Dewitt, MI; 10 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

Along with her parents, Doris was preceded in death by a son, Richard Bennett; mother and stepfather, Ruth (Keiser) and Elmer Auvinen; father, Vernon McGarey; brother, Eugene McGarey; and half-brother, Gary Auvinen.

Her life and legacy will be celebrated during a service in Martinsville on Monday, October 20th, 2025, beginning at 2:00 PM at Neal & Summers Funeral Home with her daughter-in-law, Pastor Leigha Rutan officiating. There will be one hour of visitation immediately prior to the service for family and friends and she will be laid to rest following the service in Union Cemetery in Martinsville, IN.
