Donald “Don” L. Horton

Age 86 of Corunna has gone to the Glory Land to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 31, 2025.

Funeral services will be held 11am on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Nelson-House Funeral Home with Pastor Marlene Webster officiating. Don’s final resting place will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 3pm to 8pm and on Thursday from 10am until the time of service.

Donald was born June 26, 1938 the son of Carl and Flossie (Lawrence) Horton. He was predeceased by his wife, Sandra Horton, parents and brothers, James C.(Jackie) Horton and Larry Horton, brother-in-law Homer Gifford, and granddaughter, Emily Horton.

Don is survived by his 4 sons, Randy Leigh Horton (Tandy), Craig Lewis Horton, Tim Alan Horton, and Kristopher Bryan Horton (Lori); Don is also survived by the following grandchildren, Jacob Horton (Elizabeth), Ashley Horton (Dakota Kaiser), Kelly Horton, Sydney Horton, and Josh Horton, sister Martha Gifford and sister-in-law Kathy Horton.

Don has been a lifelong resident of Owosso and Corunna. A former Banker at both State Saving Bank & Owosso Savings banks, both now known by other names. Don began his Real Estate & Appraising career in January of 1972 with LeValley Realty. In January of 1982 he opened Don Horton & Son Inc., Realtors and ran a successful business with his wife Sandy and longtime secretary, Nancy Hertzberg. Due to the market crash of the early years of 2003-2009 Don closed that office and merged with Jim Civille Agency in September of 2007. Don has been selling and appraising real estate for over 53 years.

Don has always been community minded. He has served on the Board for The Owosso Area Chamber of Commerce (President in 1991). He has been a 53 year member of the Owosso Kiwanis Club and has served on the council of the Salvation Army for over 20 years.

He has been a member of the National State and Greater Shiawassee County Boards of Realtors. From 1972 until 2025. Don served on many committees both local and state and was President of the local board in 1980. He, his wife Sandy and son Randy are the only husband , wife and son combination who have served as President of the local Board of Realtors.

Don’s lifelong love has been of Music and how it releases stress and makes people feel good and happy. The perfect style of music to do that for Don has been his 58 year membership in the Barbershop Harmony Society formerly known as the Society for the Preservation & Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America Inc., (SPEBSQSA Inc.,)

He has sung with the Lansing Capitol City Chordsmen Chorus for over 58 years. Don, over the years has sung LEAD, BARITONE or BASS in 11 quartets.

His most recent and last quartet is Olde Thyme Harmony Quartet where he was most recently the BASS but also has sung (3) different parts including LEAD & BARITONE with Olde Thyme Harmony Quartet.
