Dolores Remick

Dolores Caroline Remick died peacefully on October 28, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Dolores was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 1, 1931. She was a devoted wife to the late Leonard Richard Remick to whom she was married for 56 wonderful years. Dolores was a loving mother to Richard (Tierney) Remick, Mark (KC) Remick, and Paul (Ellen) Remick. She was a devoted Grandmother to Dylan (Mia) Remick, Spencer (Hayley) Remick, Mallory Remick, Alexandra (Cory) Ramsey, Brenna Remick, and Kaleigh Remick. She was a loving Great-Grandmother to Jaxson Remick. Dolores is survived by her sister Toni Penny.  She was predeceased by her parents Richard and Lottie Pawlowski and sibling Cookie (Junior) Deal and brother-in-law, Dale Penny.

Dolores attended St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing where she earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing and became a registered nurse. She remained an RN for over 60 years. While serving as the director of nursing, she was selling tickets for a fund raiser and one of the hospital administrators agreed to purchase two tickets if Dolores agreed to attend the dance with him. That dance began the amazing love story of Dolores and Leonard. After getting married, Dolores became a nursing educator at the University of Michigan as Leonard attended graduate school. Dolores continued to serve as a nurse while Leonard went to law school. After moving to Kalamazoo, MI, it was Dolores’ turn to attend graduate school at Western Michigan University, earning a master’s degree in psychology which she immediately put into practice serving at the Battle Creek VA Medical Center in the Psychiatric Ward. After moving back to Detroit and continuing to serve in her nursing ministry, she retired and served as the first female president of the Usher’s Club at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church. In 2001, John Engler, Michigan Governor, signed a Certificate of Special Tribute for Dolores’ service as a Breast Health Education Speaker.  In 2005, Robert Novitke, the mayor of Grosse Pointe Woods, declared January 2nd ‘Dolores Remick Day’ in recognition for her for ten years of “distinguished service” and “exceptional leadership” on the Senior Citizens’ Commission and five years of service on the Community Enhancement Fund Advisory Board.

In addition to her nursing ministry, Dolores was a loving wife and mother for whom family was most important. An ever-present force at each school her sons attended, she served as Cub Scout Den Mother, Team Mom, and car driver extraordinaire for teammates, classmates, and neighborhood kids. She was a full and active participant in the lives of her children and grandchildren. She was a cheer leader at their concerts, games, recitals, and tournaments.

Dolores and Leonard enjoyed travel both domestically and internationally. Their love and mastery of dancing the polka was legendary at family weddings. Watching them dance was magical. The two of them moved as one with joy and confidence. Dolores filled the house with the sound of musicals like My Fair Lady, South Pacific, and the King and I. Dolores was a devout Roman Catholic who practiced and lived her faith. She was a notable example of faith to her family, friends, neighbors, and anyone who knew her. She ensured that her great faith was shared with her children. Dolores was an inextinguishable flame and a force of nature who always embraced life events. She celebrated all of life’s milestones. Her servant leadership and disciplined nature have left an indelible mark on all who knew and loved her. We were all blessed to have her in our lives, and she will be greatly missed and never forgotten. May she rest in the eternal peace of Christ.
