David Sherrill

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of David Mitchell Sherill, IV, who left us too soon on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at Mission Hospital in Asheville, North Carolina. Born on August 1, 2011, in Henderson County, North Carolina, David’s life, though brief, was filled with joy and love. He was 14 years old.

David was a cherished 8th-grade student at Flat Rock Middle School, where he was surrounded by a multitude of friends. His magnetic personality and boundless kindness touched all who knew him. Known for his infectious laugh and exceptional sense of humor, David had a unique ability to bring smiles to those around him. He loved Jesus and embraced his family and friends with a heart full of generosity, always putting others before himself.

Preceded in death by his paternal granddaddy, David “Mitchell” Sherrill, III, David leaves behind a loving family. He is survived by his parents, Justin David Sherrill and Tiffany Galloway Sherrill; his beloved baby sister, Chesnee Sherrill, who he treasured as her protective big brother; his maternal grandparents, Mike and Sherri Galloway; his paternal grandmother, Trish Sherrill; and his paternal great-grandparents, Barbara and Dale Cagle. Also mourning his loss are his maternal great-grandmothers, Sybil Taylor and Barbara Galloway; his cousins, Aiden and Piper Massingale, Katie and Caleb Easter, and Tommy, Ethan, and Lane Corn, along with numerous great aunts, uncles, and a wide circle of friends. Among those closest to him were his best friends, Uncle Maverick Galloway (USMC); and David’s cousin, Mitch Corn; and last but not least, his canine companion, Waylon.

A celebration of David’s life will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Gethsemane Baptist Church in Hendersonville. Interment will follow at Pearson Cemetery in Zirconia. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., one hour prior to the service, at the church.

David was truly magnanimous, embracing those around him with an open heart and generous spirit. His absence leaves a void in the lives of all who knew him, but his memory will forever remain a source of comfort and inspiration.
